ACPSA Boccia players compete at Defi Sportif Altergo

Last weekend, ACPSA travelled to Montreal, QC for the one-of-a-kind Defi Sportif Altergo, hosting over 7,000 elite and upcoming athletes, across all deficiencies, from all over Canada and over 15 countries. It is the largest annual multi-sport event in Canada and ACPSA is proud to say that two Albertans were present this year in Boccia for the first time in about 14 years!

47 athletes from across Canada gathered at the Maurice-Richard and two of our members, Cyla Schoneck and Chandra Round, participated in the BC3 division in the National Boccia competition. Competing in their very first national competition was a huge feat for both Round and Schoneck. Though they didn’t have the results they would’ve liked, they took it as a learning experience and are now more motivated than ever to keep practicing and improving their game.

“I had the most amazing time!” said Schoneck “It was a huge learning experience competing with and watching some amazing players. I’ve gained a whole new love for the sport and look forward to returning next year”

Schoneck only came up with one win throughout the tournament, but it marked a milestone in Alberta Boccia history as our first win in national competitions and we could not be more proud! ACPSA being present at this kind of high level competition has been eye opening for our athletes and staff, and with what we’ve learned, we will work hard to grow the sport in Alberta so we can one day challenge the very strong Quebec who dominated in most divisions.

It is also worth mentioning that our Edmonton Assassins were present at this event representing Alberta in the sport of Powerchair Soccer. Our experienced and skilled Assassins had a 2-1-1 record and ended up winning silver! We are very proud of Alberta and our athletes Josh Taylor, Kiley Geddie, Ryan Rondeau and Marty Rondeau, showing Canada how strong we are!
